Instead of harping on -------, let us be grateful to DB for cleaning house. Now that the house is clean, let's move on.

And cliff--even if I get as testy as the next Wolf (hee-hee),
I still love ya, you psychotic third person lug. Let us now speak of 1969--Thelma Theater run--especially the last night which was Pig's.

I may have been at this show... But then that was the beauty/curse of the 60's. It never really seemed important or possible to remember much...

thanks for directing me to 12-12-69; though it has lead to a night of little sleep as well.

I have enjoyed 12-10 but this is the first I have listened to 12-12. I was thinking of just getting a taste prior to sleep; and then I heard Easy Wind, which hooked for the full three wonderful hours.

As time goes by I find myself listening to the sixties more than any other decade, with fine music like this being one of the reasons why.

I too must give thanks for 12-12-69.

I am always wary of the "old-timey" shows...my personal preference being the mid to late 70's to early 80's Dead, but there is no denying the raw power of that show.

the sequence of events from Alligator through the insane caution Jam (I can do w/out the "feedback" that follows, but still)...is just phenomenal.

Youthful, raging, inspriring playing. has prompted me to explore other pre 70's shows!

g of p ... when i first listened to this monumental (can i use this descriptor?) show, actually in dec. of last year, i was floored, just blown away, and that's saying something given my strong bias for '69 GD; it's easily a Pigpen showcase, but has something for near everyone; my only surprise is the lack of a review by dr.flashback, as i thought he'd be all over this one; however, he gives his unique thumbs up to 2/22 & 4/5 & 12/30, three other beautiful gems from the golden era.

DB, If you saw todays pic of his headstitches he posted, it seems he had some serious brain salad surgery >> http://www.archive.org/iathreads/post-view.php?id=119300

might explain a few things, maybe not

Radiohead >

But I'm a creep,
I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doin' here?
I don't belong here

I don't care if it hurts,
I wanna have control
I want a perfect body
I want a perfect soul

He'd mentioned surgery a few weeks ago (yeah, I'm writting a book) soon enough, I'll need a brain transplant :)
At least in the last few decades, my brain has migrated up, from below my waist...

A brain walks into a bar and says, "I'll have a pint of beer please."

The barman looks at him and says "Sorry, I can't serve you."

"Why not?" askes the brain.

"You're already out of your head."

Hey--now this is a thread to my liking...

1969, December to boot.

And only the five of us so far; assuming you are who you are, and I am whom I am...

Thank you Dancin...

Thank you brother CLIFF for coming back around. Warm up with this recommendation, and then sink back into 68 to make sure you are not hypothermic...

Jerry says in the start of this show something like-------------Why don't you get some tequila and we will all get drunk

1969--what more can I say? It really was a hell of a year. The variety, the progression, the jamming, the scene--and the band at the top of their game! And the oddity of "Next time yo see me" as a vocal duet between Jerry and Pig! Killer.

O.K. Ghost -I am glad you brought that up because it sounds very different than other versions I have heard. I also like the way Pigpen leads Bobby into the spotlight with him during Lovelight. Then Ron just schools the whole place on blues improv."we can get it on... one more time... can see the sun come over the mountain, through the trees..."

It's a lot of fun finding shows here that I once had on tape & loaned out, got eaten by old tape decks, lost in moves, etc. I had a tape of this show years ago & it's great to hear it again. I don't think we could all come up with enough superlatives to describe this spectacular show.

How does the CRAP below get through to here? Aren't there strict rules against this kind of advertising?
